Number of the Day Routine
Do this as a whole class number talk first to allow students to learn from their peers and feel comfortable with the process then progress to math journals or writing on non-permanent surfaces in partners!

For this routine, pick an appropriate number and have student represent it in as many ways as they can. Students might use dice, ten frames, tens and ones, number words or money to show their number. They also may create many different types of equations using different to equal the number.
Student can draw representations in a math journal on a white board or a vertical surface for a chosen number of the day.
Students can create a collection with manipulatives and items to demonstrate their number.
